Meet Erica – a stylist that delivers  Creative cuts, thoughtful color, and a texture-first approach to making hair feel like you.

Erica is a hairstylist at Open Hair Space in the Twin Cities who specializes in short haircuts and grooming, curls and textured hair, organic shapes, and creative color. Her approach is equal parts technical and artistic: she loves finding the shape, texture, and color that work with a client’s natural hair and lifestyle rather than asking their hair to behave like something it isn’t.

Erica’s relationship with this team began in August 2017, when Fox Den Salon was her first salon home after cosmetology school. She has grown alongside the team through new locations, new chapters, and ultimately the opening of Open Hair Space. After years behind the chair, she brings a deep understanding of what makes a great haircut or color service feel personal, hair that is not just technically good, but genuinely right for the person wearing it.

As someone with curly hair herself, Erica knows firsthand that working with texture can come with its own set of obstacles. She believes curls, waves, coils, and organic textures should be something to work with, not against. She continues to pursue advanced education in curl cutting, textured hair care, styling techniques, and product knowledge so she can help connect clients better understand and care for their own hair. She lives to be the stylist that hears “no one has ever explained that about my hair to me before” during her consultations and appointments!

Color is another one of Erica’s favorite creative outlets. She has a keen eye for color projects both big and small, from subtle shifts and dimensional color to more creative, expressive vivid designs. Erica trained as an educator for ColorSpace, and she stays passionate about continuing her education in color techniques and creative applications.

When it comes to products, Erica is especially fond of Davines for its thoughtful approach to sustainability, carefully considered ingredients, and ability to create effective products for a wide range of hair types and textures. She loves helping clients find products that actually make sense for their hair, routine, and goals—because the right product recommendation can sometimes make as much difference as the haircut itself.

For Erica, hair is wearable, functional art. She loves the combination of creativity and practicality that comes with making something beautiful that someone gets to live in every day. She also brings that artistic mindset to her role as a stylist mentor, working closely with licensed co-stylists at Open Hair Space to improve efficiency for her clients while helping support and develop the next generation of Twin Cities hair talent.

When she’s not at the salon, Erica is usually somewhere covered in dirt, thread, or beads. She tends a very large garden, takes care of her chickens, spends time with family (please please please ask her about her dogs!), and makes things with her hands through textile crafts, beadwork, and jewelry making. And, naturally, she dreams of the day she can live off the grid on a sustainable little compound surrounded by the people she loves.
